BP is being sued by the United States Department of Justice for carelessness leading to the Gulf oil spill.

The government said BP and 8 contractors are liable under the Oil Pollution Act and the Clean Water Act for all expenses and fines related to the spill. In the suit, a final monetary amount for oil spill cleanup and damages, estimated at tens of billions of dollars, is left open.
