Multinational Companies Shut Down Operations in Restive Niger-Delta

Multinational Companies operating in the Bayelsa state region of the Niger-Delta have been reported to be shutting down operations in the area as a result of the unsafe nature of the region. A good number of these companies are actually pulling out of the region refusing to carry on with on-going projects since the lives of its staff are no longer safe. A case that led to the this action was the attack on a Peak Petroleum Company rig in the deep offshore area of the country’s continental shelf in the Atlantic, a location initially considered to be a safe haven from the attacks of militants carrying out their activities in the region. The operations of the militants of the Niger-Delta are spreading across the length and breadth of the region and the Nigerian government seems incapable of resolving the problems on ground.
This latest development will definitely cost the Nigerian government and the entire country at large.
