Our client is a major multinational Oil & Gas operator. They have up and downstream operations throughout Europe and the USA. Their domestic operations are centred on one of UK’s largest Oil refineries which they wholly own.

Role Purpose- Ensures global Refinery economic optimisation
Short Term- Directs day to day activities of staff
Medium Term- Implement Performance control function, and LP developments
Long Term- Ensure customer satisfaction in that the Refinery consistently meets the Supply Group’s requirements without violating the refinery safe standards including process/equipment integrity and reliability processes.
Duties & Involvement
Directs and controls the development and implementation of operating plans and schedules. Ensures effective dialogue between the Planning and Scheduling group and the Operations department.
Participates in the Refinery Operating Committee, providing recommendations and advice to the General Manager in areas relevant to the department.
Co-ordinates Refinery Planning and scheduling activities with the Company Supply group. Reviews monthly planning programmes and co-ordinates the Refinery input into the Supply Meeting, presenting a regular review of Refinery operations and identifying areas for improved operation.
Advises and initiates policy for the improvement of Refinery profitability, both long and short term, to be achieved though changes in plant operation, new products, changes in product specification, reaction to crude or product price changes.
Counsels, appraises and motivates direct sub-ordinates. Ensures that performance appraisals are carried out promptly and in accordance with established Company policy.
Develops and recommends to the General Manager, departmental manpower planning, merit, promotional and training programmes.
Prepares and controls departmental budget, forecasts and their regular review. Maintain and promote adoption and use of the Refinery Management Systems, to ensure that the requirements of the ISO9002 Quality Management System and the Safety Management System are always met within area of responsibility.
As a leader promote safety by establishing a presence in the field and auditing our safety management systems.
Qualifications & Experience Required
•Typically Chartered Engineer
•Minimum of 10 years experience within Operations, Planning and Optimisation.
•Experienced with linear modelling
•Good understanding of a Refinery Operating strategy.
•Able to communicate to all levels with tact and diplomacy.
•Able to respond quickly to changing circumstances as a result of plant upsets or logistical changes.
